Description
“The Last Lie”, one of the most popular works by Michael Cacoyannis that was screened in theaters in 1958 starring Elli Lampeti and with music by Manos Hadjidakis, is presented for the first time on stage, at -2 of the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation.
The beautiful daughter of a fallen Athenian aristocratic family who struggles to maintain the pretext of financial prosperity when in fact she is drowning in debt, is pressured by her mother to drown out her feelings and marry a rich man. Her relationship with the maid of the family brings her close to ordinary working-class people and reveals to her a different perspective on life.
The film was screened in the 1957-1958 season and sold 50,156 tickets. It came in 5th place in 31 films.
First film appearance by Vassilis Kailas and Xenia Kalogeropoulou.
For her performance in the film, Elli Lampeti was nominated for a “BAFTA Award”.
