Wooden base for spinners. Spinning is one of the favorite toys of children all over the world. The earliest written reference to it is found in Homer’s Iliad when a stone hurled by Telamonius Ajax in a duel with Hector, twists “like a spinner” before hitting his opponent. Its ancient name was strombos, vortex or bemvix. It was conical and made of hardwood.
